Mobile Engagement Startup Greengage Mobile Gets $1 Million From Several Investors

Toronto-based startup Greengage Mobile, a web and mobile software platform that engages and drives adoption of health/wellness, and green initiatives, has announced a $1 million funding round.

The round comes from the Investment Accelerator Fund (IAF), the RBC Generator Fund, and investors from Waterloo-based Golden Triangle AngelNet (GTAN).

In an email, CEO Lindsey Goodchild told BetaKit that Greengage Mobile is a “cutting-edge engagement and analytics platform,” focused on facilitating and rewarding health, environmental and community actions through engagement. “Our platform has dramatically increased engagement in these types of programs across all of our corporate clients by at least 60 percent (this is upwards from traditional engagement rates of 10-14 percent),” she wrote.

The startup claims it’s a market leader in facilitating and rewarding positive behaviours through mobile engagement, quickly becoming “the go-to resource for companies, not-for-profits, and governments that are looking to engage their employees and citizens in healthy living, green, and community initiatives on a large scale.” App users are recognized immediately for taking positive health actions, being green, or contributing to their community through a rewards system. The management and analytics platform provides administrators with the ability to establish and monitor specific metrics, with powerful data that supports program enhancements and reporting.

The funds will be used to meet growing customer demand and roll out additional features on the mobile app and the web platform.

“As first time entrepreneurs, my co-founder and I have spent the last two years navigating startup life, developing our software and mobile offering, launching across a number of clients, and of course fundraising,” Goodchild told BetaKit. “Today, we are glad to say that the hustling has paid off.”

According to KPMG’s 2011 Review of the Global State of CSR, 95 per cent of the world’s largest companies are reporting on corporate sustainability. However, the Brighter Planet Employee Engagement Survey shows that on average only 10-14 per cent of employees are actively engaged in these programs. The issue of engagement and participation continues to be an elusive challenge, however Greengage Mobile has been able to make great strides by raising engagement rates in programs from the traditional 10-14 per cent to upwards of 70 per cent with their clients.
