Deloitte unveils Canada’s Technology Fast 50

Deloitte unveiled the winners of the Technology Fast 50 program today. This is an annual event and focusses in on innovation, entrepreneurship, achievements and evolution within the Canadian technology space, specifically in three categories: the Technology Fast 50 ranking, Companies-to-Watch and Leadership awards.

Deloitte noted that this year’s winners grew an average of 4736% over five years, which is higher than the average last year at 832%. This year, majority of the Technology Fast 50 winners are from Ontario (29), followed by Québec (9) British Columbia (8), and Alberta (4). 17 of the Fast 50 winners are new to the program.

Taking top spot is Chango, a Toronto-based digital media company. Vancouver’s Hootsuite placed second, followed by Ottawa-based Shopify.

“The achievements of this year’s Fast 50 recipients are an indication that Canadian technology companies can excel here on home soil,” said Robert Nardi, Partner and National Technology Media & Telecommunications Leader for Deloitte in Canada. “Fast-growing companies used to look solely to the US to secure sources of capital when domestic venture capital dried up after 2000, but the pendulum is now swinging back into balance. That is the result of recently added investments to the Canadian technology investing sector. ”
